Because of the American Red Cross, no one is alone in their greatest time of need. When a disaster strikes, volunteers from the Yakima Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross are on the scene providing emergency shelter, food, clothing, and counseling. We supply food and hot and cold drinks for the emergency personnel who are at the scene and provide respite for them as needed. Our volunteers are able to set up disaster shelters, conduct damage assessments, and meet the immediate needs of disaster victims, helping them resume normal daily activities and begin recovering.

On average, the Yakima Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross responds to a disaster every 3 days. But we also do much more. The Yakima Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross helps individuals, groups and organizations prepare for emergencies, train to respond to disasters and to provide health and safety services to others.

The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission. All of the funding for local programs and services comes from local donors and 97% of the chapter’s workforce volunteer their time and services and do not receive compensation

  • 100% Funding for local programs and services comes from local donors
  • 97% of the chapter’s workforce volunteer their time and services and do not receive compensation
  • Free Disaster Services and Services to Armed Forces

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
